COMPASSION IN WORLD FARMING  -  ANIMAL VOICE

Compassion in World Farming (South Africa) is part of a world-wide organisation dedicated to bringing an end to factory farming. Through its free magazine Animal Voice, Compassion alerts consumers to the huge difference they can make through their buying power, to the lives of farmed animals, 99% of whom are crammed into factory farms. The animals live in squalor and deprivation and go to slaughter never having experienced life's most basic gifts such as sunshine, soil, green grass and the ability to actually  use the limbs they were born with. In the crammed living conditions, disease can spread like wildfire and antibiotics have to be routinely fed to the animals to keep them upright long enough to get to slaughter. Now, climate change is helping Compassion's endeavours because, although the food produced by factory farmed animals is relatively cheap, the carbon footprint of industrialised farming is huge.
