BOTOX – at what cost ?

BOTOX has been around for a while now and recently a new product has made its way onto the market;  pig fat Botox !  New to the USA, this has been used for several years in Canada and Europe. Pig-derived treatments are not new to medicine and pigs are often used for medical purposes, because they have a similar anatomy to humans. The pig Botox treatment is called Evolence, which is marketed as an alternative treatment for other ‘facial fillers' such as Botox, Juvederm, and Restylane. The main difference is that this treatment is made from pig and not cow collagen. Experts say that pig collagen has an advantage as it is less prone to human allergic reactions compared to that of cow collagen and it's a lot cheaper. Either way it means injecting animal product into your face! Remember also that every cosmetic (and medical) procedure is tested on animals and in this case thousands of mice are killed by injection of botulic toxin, according to the LD50 test which means the deaths of 50% of the tested animals. This means that every single batch of Botox injections means the deaths of 500 mice; they are deliberately overdosed and when half (of 1000) die slowly and painfully while the respiratory muscles become paralysed, the product is then deemed suitably tested.
