OUR INGREDIENTS….
The VG uses a wide variety of ingredients comprising extracts from fruits, herbs, flowers, the earth's minerals, roots, seeds and seaweed extract.
Our mission is to use only the best quality Certified Organic, non Certified Organic and Natural Ingredients and these are sourced from our trusted suppliers from around the world. We also try to source our raw ingredients from Fair Trade organisations wherever possible. None of our products, or their ingredients, are ever tested on animals and we are privileged to be on the White List of approved products, with Beauty Without Cruelty. The various ingredients of our products are chosen for their exceptional ability to destroy free radicals which attack the collagen in the skin resulting in loss of elasticity and the onset of wrinkles and lines. Anti oxidants such as Vitamin A, E, B and C are powerful anti free radical agents and many of our essential oils and herbal extracts contain these. The cold pressed oils we use are rich sources of alpha linolenic acid which is the only oil that the human body cannot produce (an Omega 3 fatty acid) as it is taken out of most of the oils that we consume by mouth, during the processing procedure.
The Victorian Garden products do not contain ingredients which we as a company consider are not beneficial to the skin and which in our opinion may pose potential health risks. Our ingredients are therefore 100% free of ingredients which concern us such as Polyethylene Glycol, Parabens, Sodium Laureth / Lauryl Sulfate (SLES), Aluminium, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Petrolatum, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Isopropyl Alcohol, DEA, TEA, PABA, Phthalates, Vinyls, Polyquaternium, synthetic Chelating Agents, Nitrates, Bromates, Urea, Titanium Dioxide, Grapefruit Seed Extract, TEA (Triethanolamine), Diathanolamine and any animal derived or animal tested ingredients.
The decision not to include certain ingredients in our products is just that – our decision. This in no way indicates that other skincare products produced by companies which choose to use such ingredients are “ bad” products at all – many of these ingredients are perfectly acceptable in cosmetics and considered by many to be safe, but as a company it is entirely our prerogative to choose what goes into our own products.
None of our products or ingredients are tested on animals in any way whatsoever and all products are biodegradable and adhere to our strict stance on zero environmental impact. Most are Vegan Friendly. Our products are not Certified Organic, although we do use both Certified and non Certified Organic ingredients extensively within the products and will always use Certified Organic ingredients where available, over Natural ingredients. Ingredients are listed on our product labels and comply with overseas requirements for export. We try to keep up with international trends internationally and are committed to ensuring that our products remain of the highest quality in all respects and that means not only organic but also healthy and safe to use. It is absolutely vital that a preservative system preserves properly and we do use several essential oils which offer anti-oxidant and preserving properties, are anti bacterial, anti viral and anti fungal. However, essential oils would need to be used in very high quantities to offer even a mediocre preservative system and this cannot be achieved safely. After extensive research, it is our opinion (and that of many experienced cosmetic manufacturing chemists) that essential oils alone still do not offer efficient enough preservative ability to maintain a stable, healthy, clean product. We are aware that some organic skincare manufacturers have experienced frequent product instability, oxidization and microbial contamination of their products due to an inefficient preservative system and we are not prepared to take that risk. Skincare products may be “Certified Organic ” but an Organic Certification stamp on a product does not necessarily render the product safe to use - just that it contains a high percentage of Certified Organic ingredients. Primarily, the term “organic” is a method of agriculture, not an assurance of safety or stability of a skincare product.
