Earthmother Organic Health Shop

Earthmother Organic is about enjoying life. Have that slab of chocolate. Drench your salads in Olive oil. Have that second cup of coffee. Smother your macaroni in hormone-free, goat's-milk cheese. Eat, drink and be merry, knowing that you are doing so without destroying your body or the environment. Celebrate food with complete certainty that no farmer has been underpaid and that the only children involved in the process are your own.
Founded about six years ago, from the back of a bakkie (truck), Earthmother Organic has matured into a well-rounded, multi-tasking woman of the new millenium. Earthmother Organic consists of a retail outlet at 134 Davenport Rd, selling fresh produce several days a week and retailing their products on-line throughout the country.
The retail outlet operates from Euforia House at
106 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, Durban. The shop is run by Darren Glazer and carries over five hundred different items, ranging from chocolates, pastas, coffees, lentils, bouillons and baby foods, to dog shampoo and re-usable nappies and almost everything in between. Many of these products come from Rapunzel and Sunval, which specialises in baby foods. Rapunzel (German-based) and Sunval (French-based) have been in existence for over thirty and fifty years respectively which businesses have impeccable records. Their commitment to Fair Trade, consistent quality and strict adherence to the stringent requirements for Organic Certification are enviable. While it is difficult to have absolutely everything available immediately, Darren is always willing to try and source new products upon request. Both he and Doris are also currently working to access more locally produced goods, of which the shop already has a fairly large supply. This includes The Victorian Garden Organic Skincare Collection. The shop is open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00. Tel: 031 202 1527. Although in a different location, this outlet have not lost touch with their roots at Earthmother, Durban and still supply a range of seasonal, organic vegetables and fruit. Eva, the founder and one of the owners, works tirelessly to source farmers and their wares. Due to the array of micro-climates and soil types expressed in our fantastic province of Kwa Zulu Natal , our fruit and vegetables need to be sourced from many different farmers at any given time. Eva also works, wherever possible, with developing farmers and is supplying an increasingly larger percentage of the produce from her farm, Isidore. Based on the principles of Permaculture, Isidore is managed by Brian, who is trained in Permaculture, and Leonard. These delicious vegetables and fruits are sold at the Davenport Rd shop every Tuesday and Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00. The Friday market also boasts a bakery. This is run by Doris, the other half of Earthmother, who will delight your taste buds with a variety of her pestos, wheat free crunchies and other delectable treats. Definitely not to be missed. If you're a weekend shopper and would enjoy a trip to the country, visit them at the Shongweni Farmers' Market. It runs from 6:30 to 10:00 every Saturday morning.
For those who prefer the comfort of home, there is an on-line retail option at www.earthmother.co.za. Besides being able to purchase goods on-line, you will have access to articles on health and links to related sites. This division of Earthmother is run by Doris and Nicole, both of whom are available during office hours to answer any queries you may have about the on-line shop.
